I've always loved the idea that a beautiful image can outlive the world in which it was created. An old botanical illustration, a forgotten landscape, a portrait from another century—each carries something of the hands that made it and the time that shaped it.

There is a particular pleasure in discovering these works again. In looking closely at something that might otherwise have remained tucked away in an old book, an archive, or a forgotten collection.

Once Was brings together carefully chosen works from the past, some faithfully preserved, others thoughtfully reimagined. In these new interpretations, elements from different works are brought together in layers—a figure from one painting, a landscape from another, perhaps a botanical detail or an architectural fragment—creating something that feels both familiar and entirely new.

Each piece is selected or composed for its beauty, character, and the quiet sense of history it carries.

Because sometimes the loveliest things aren't new at all. They're simply waiting to be seen again.
